GAZ looks back at a history starting more than 100 years ago with the foundation of the company Friemann & Wolf in Zwickau.
In the course of time, the legal form and the name of the company changed several times, the areas in which it operated were continually expanded, and the range of products supplemented by new innovative products.
In the beginning, the company's reputation in international markets was based on its mining lamps, since the 1920s it was known, in addition, for its excellent NiCd batteries, in the 1930s, it started to produce the first rail vehicle batteries, and after the current company had been disincorporated in 1990, it began, in addition, to manufacture and supply emergency and safety lighting systems.

Apart from supplying different types of lead-acid and NiCd batteries as well as emergency and safety lighting systems, GAZ specialises, above all, in the fields of rail vehicle batteries as well as the manufacture and supply of tunnel lighting systems.
